In these pandemic times one thing for sure that brings peace, wellbeing and faith that the higher powers are working, is your everyday prayer. This is an age-old practice from primitive times, even doctors resort to prayers while dealing with complications, which in many times have delivered miracles.
More than religious practice, prayer is a tool or technique to bring your inner focus to enhance your PRANA or life energy. Meditation, pranayama, breathing, and yoga also focus on the same philosophy. A mantra-like Gayatri mantra has again scientific significance in sharpening the consciousness and overall power of focus. According to reports, the All India Institute of Medical Science, Rishikesh is researching whether chanting the Gayatri Mantra and doing Pranayama can cure coronavirus, along with usual modes of treatment. This study has been commissioned by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India. The idea behind the study is to see if the mantra and the pranayama can accentuate the Covid-19 treatment and heal patients faster as compared to just getting the traditional coronavirus treatment. For this, the institute is conducting a study on twenty patients.

The meaning of the Gayatri mantra is “the divine and holy light which pervades all that exists, the significant and adorable sun as I meditate on your supreme and sovereign radiance, may you illuminate and brighten my intellect. It was mentioned in Indian tradition that, Gayatri mantra was the mother of all the Vedas, and chanting the mantra will remove all sins. In fact, reciting the mantra gives the equal effect of reciting the four Vedas. It was reported that chanting the Gayatri mantra regularly shall improve learning power and has been introduced in schools in many European schools also. Concentration, prosperity, eternal power, peace and improves the quality of life. Studies have reported that brain areas such as orbitofrontal, anterior cingulate, parahippocampal gyri, thalami, and hippocampiactivity significantly improve by chanting mantras
